5 STAPLES to Upgrade Your Wardrobe in a Flash

Style |

Hi Everyone!

Ever stand in the middle of your closet staring blankly at so many rows of clothes that you should seriously be embarrassed, and still feel like you don’t have a thing to wear?

Snap. Me too.   I can’t tell you how many times Oliver’s heard me say “I literally don’t have any clothes?!”  Poor guy just gets this completely confused look on his face.

The problem isn’t that we literally don’t have anything to wear it’s that we’re BORED with our wardrobe.  It happens. The GOOD NEWS – it’s an easy fix and doesn’t require a huge overhaul.

Just add a few luxe pieces and it’ll feel like a completely fresh, new wardrobe!

Here are ….

5 STAPLES to Upgrade Your Wardrobe

Class up your tees, jeans, your LBD and everything in between……

1. MOTO JACKET

You can never go wrong with a classic moto jacket and it’ll never go out of style.  Seriously – it’s a good investment.  Whether you like leather, suede or vegan – a well fitted moto adds edginess to more feminine styles like floaty summer dresses or skirts.

I like throwing mine over a hoodie and jeans for an instantly cool-chic outfit.  Grab a great bag and you… are… GOLDEN girl!

How cool are these!??

2.  KNEE-HIGH BOOTS

Boots are another classic staple that you can wear with pretty much anything.  Go for a neutral color like black, gray or camel and wear them fall, winter and into spring!   Wear with jeans, cropped wide-legged slacks, leggings, dresses or skirts.  They’re always classy-sexy and super flattering!

Extremely versatile. Over-the-knee boots look amazing with skirts, skorts, dresses, cropped trousers, denim – anything. You’ll have so much fun making “old outfits” look fresh, new and sexy-chic.

Neutral colored knee-boots that’ll go with anything in your closet!

3.  OVERSIZED SUNGLASSES

AKA – Movie Star Suglasses.  One of my favorite ways to look glam while hardly lifting a finger, Oversized Sunnies say “where’s my jet” without uttering a word.

Whether you’re dressed to the 9’s or super laid-back-casual, movie-star sunglasses are the ultimate chic style accessory.  Throw your hair in a messy topknot, swipe on a red lip (or not) & go.

A cool pair of shades are great on casual, no-makeup days too. Another plus – they protect the sensitive skin around your eyes from skin-damaging sun rays!

I’m partial to the Gucci’s

I personally love (and have) the Gucci’s below. They’re square, which works well on most all face shapes in terms of a balanced, flattering look and just flat out look…..cool.

If you love a cat-eye, you may love these these gorgeous Versace’s in a sleek tortoise shell finish. Super cool and a nice change from classic black. Either way – choose the one that appeals to you the most, and give it a go.

4.  SIGNATURE HANDBAG

For something you use every day, a designer bag is so worth it.  It’ll immediately elevate anything you wear, for years on end.  I’ve had a few Chanel bags in the closet for 7 or 8 years, and they look as gorgeous as the day I got ‘em.

Don’t get me wrong – you don’t have to spend thousands, but a good quality premium bag is worth the investment.

What Color Should I Get?

  1. If you tend to wear a lot of patterns or bright colors, stick with a solid neutral (think Ivory, Black, Gray or Tobacco). A Solid Neutral will go with most any pattern or bright color, without clashing or competing.
  2. If your wardrobe is full of solid, neutral colors, choose a bag color that’ll add a nice pop against your clothes, like this gorgeous hot pink Jacquemus mini cross-body.

If you wear a lot of solids and neutrals – think about choosing a bright, fun color to add interest to your outfits. I love a richly colored pink – it’s fun and feminine!

99 problems but a bag ain’t one

3 options to consider, in Ivory, Black and Pink (for a pop of color). I’m not usually a Tory Burch fan, but I DO actually like this ivory, pebbled leather satchel with an optional cross-body. It’s 11″ wide, which makes it a great everyday bag without being TOO overwhelming if you’re petite like me.

I love this black Mansur Gavel Bucket Bag, which can be worn on the shoulder OR as a cross-body bag. It’s chic, sleek and totally functional for everyday use. Notice the pop of red on the interior – for a touch of designer flair. Love!

5. SCARVES

Scarves have always been a staple in my closet.  First of all, they’re incredibly chic.  They’re also one of the easiest ways to take an outfit from boring to cool in under a hot second.  Finally, scarves are extremely versatile & portable.  I always, always travel with a big cashmere scarf.  It acts as a luxe blanket on the plane, in addition to a chic accessory that easily stuffs into my tote when it gets too warm.

Solids or prints?

I’d suggest using the same guidelines as mentioned above for handbags.  If you tend to wear a lot of prints or patterns – go for solid colored scarves that won’t compete.  If like me, you’re more into solids or neutrals, try a few prints for an added layer of style.

Loro Piana

This particular scarf that I’m wearing below, is a Loro Piana – and was admittedly a bit of a splurge. It’s luxuriously soft, squishy and made from some of the finest cashmere in the world.

It’s one of my favorite accessories with which to travel because it’s warm, cozy and elevates anything I’m wearing in like 2-seconds. 😉

Try one of these on for size!

YSL Animal Print

Loving the YSL animal print – especially if you wear a lot of solid colors…Plus – it translates seamlessly from day to night.

ALLSAINTS Black & White

To compliment your new Moto Jacket – this timelessly chic mixed print scarf from ALLSAINTS is so versatile. I love how it compliments the edginess of the Moto jacket, adding a touch of femininity and softness.

NORDSTROM, Lightweight Cashmere

If you love the idea of a classic ivory scarf, but aren’t in the mood to splurge on a Loro Piana – I gotcha! Try this Nordstrom label, lightweight cashmere scarf. It’s described as “tissue weight” on the site, but it’s thicker than that. (I have a few).

I’d describe it as mid-weight and substantial enough for a crisp day. I mean, for under $100 – it’s really a great value. I was (pleasantly) surprised!
