Radiant Skin Starts with What You Eat

We all love love love healthy, luminescent, radiant skin!  Think of the billions of dollars we women spend each year on facials, lasers, peels, lotions, serums and shimmery powders – all in the quest for that “natural” healthy glow.

Glowing skin starts on the inside, first!   The foods we choose to eat, significantly affect the radiance, quality and the rate at which our skin ages. Translation:  Eating a crappy diet shows in your skin.  It won’t be as healthy or glowing as it would otherwise be.

If I had to choose between spending my money on good, healthy food or a facial, cream or laser…..It would be healthy food, hands down.  That’s where it all starts. Keepin’ it real.

Ever notice how you can totally tell if someone is a smoker or heavy drinker?  Their skin always looks dull, unhealthy and somehow just “off.”  That’s an extreme example, but you get the picture.  Our lifestyle and what we put into our bodies – shows in our skin!

Kale

A true superfood! If you really are what you eat, eat more kale and knock your gorgeous self out!  The vitamin K in Kale helps reduce dark circles under your pretty eyes, and works to tighten your skin.  The Lutein promotes collagen production…that’s part of what makes your skin look stronger and fuller.

Avocado

Great source of vitamin E, an antioxidant that works to protect your skin from oxidative damage, and Vitamin C which is also important for healthy skin!  Kick your day off with Avocadotoast and you’re already ahead of the game!


SUPER SNACK: Mash 1/2 an avocado in a bowl + slather onto a piece of Ezekial toast. Sprinkle with Himalayan sea salt & cracked pepper.

Blueberries

As if we need an excuse to eat blueberries? Aside from being deelish, they’re packed with Vitamins A, E and Vitamin C – an important antioxidant for collagen production.  Adding to the goodness, bloobs are packed with anthocyanins, antioxidants that shield our skin from harmful free radicals. Incorporating them into your diet regularly, will help brighten and protect your beautiful skin. Try my favorite blueberry snack.

Strawberries

Love!  Seriously, a good strawberry is like candy. Which is good news because they’re super good for our skin too.  They’re rich in Vitamin C, which fights against collagen destroying free radicals, contributing to fine lines. No Bueno! They’re high in folic acid, which aids in cell regeneration and new cell production.  I love them on top of protein pancakes.


Easy SKIN SMOOTHIE: Blend frozen Strawberry + Blueberry + Spinach with almond milk. Add a scoop of protein powderer a pre or post-gym snack.

Salmon

Salmon is huge Chez Pelly!  We probably have salmon 2x a week.  Aside from being so fast & easy to make it’s truly a superfood for your skin. The omega-3 fatty acids help to calm inflammation – which contributes to breaking down youth-enhancing collagen and elastin. High levels of good fat in the body (like salmon) feed the skin – promoting healthy, vibrant, glowing skin!  Try these easy salmonpackets.  Fast, delicious and healthy.  

Red bell pepper

High in fiber & vitamin B6, just one red bell has more than 100% of our daily vitamin C needs. This is another one of those amazingly efficient foods that are rich in carotenoids, which aides in wrinkle prevention and increased circulation of blood to our skin.  Try this super easy red bell hummus snack. 


SALMON & BELL PEPPER PACKET: Place salmon filet & slices of Bell Pepper on tin foil. Sprinkle w/salt, pepper, fresh rosemary, squeeze of lemon. Tent the foil. Bake at 400 until done. About 14-17 minutes depending on thickness.

Walnuts

The Omega-3 fats found in walnuts, work to strengthen the membranes of our skin cells. This locks in both the moisture and the vital nutrients that keep our skin healthy and glowing.  Eat on their own as a quick snack, or scatter them on top of a healthy salad for a satisfying lunch or light dinner!

 

Olive Oil

A staple of the Mediterranean diet, olive oil is rich in antioxidants.  The healthy monounsaturated fats found in olive oil, help our cells to resist photoaging – premature aging of the skin cause by too much UV sun exposure. Translation – it helps stave off wrinkles. 

It’s so easy to incorporate olive oil, but like any other good fat – be mindful of portion control.  Even good fats go to your ass if you overdo it.  Just sayin’.  Drizzle a little olive oil over this delicious heirloom tomato snack!

TOMATO + OLIVE OIL + BASAMIC SNACK: Sliced Heirloom tomatoes, salt & pepper, drizzle with Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, good Balsamic & fresh basil. Deelishus!
