Matcha Green Tea: An Anti-oxidant Powerhouse

Wellness |

Not just a trendy LA-thing.  One serving of Matcha has the nutritional equivalent of 10 cups of regularly brewed green tea.

Matcha! Matcha! Matcha! Green Tea Power!!

Matcha has 137 times more antioxidants than regularly brewed green tea

I live in California, so of course you know we love our Matcha!  Matcha green tea, that is.  As is the case with many of today’s emerging wellness trends, we look to the wisdom of ancient cultures for their knowledge of natural wellness tools like Bee Pollen and Matcha green tea.

The monks knew it!

The practice of preparing and drinking matcha, was popularized over 900-years ago by  Chinese Zen Buddhist monks, who found that Matcha helped them with clarity, mental focus and their daily meditation.  They felt intuitively, what we now know scientifically –  that the tea packs a one-two punch with the effects of caffeine which keeps us alert plus L-Theanine which sharpens focus and concentration.  Combined, these two ingredients aided in their meditation and spiritual enlightenment.

Matcha’s Major Health Benefit
Unparalleled Anti-oxidants

I know – we hear about anti-oxidants every day and know that they’re supposed to be super good for our health….. but really – what are they, and why are they so important?

Here’s the deal with Anti-Oxidants:

Anti-oxidants are naturally occurring chemical compounds in our body, that work to prevent aging and chronic disease.  Yes pleeezz!!!  They are our body’s natural defense mechanisms – the more we have, the better able we are to fight infections and disease.  That’s important as we age – and guess what, if you’re alive, you’re aging!

A lot of fruits and vegetables are good sources of anti-oxidants (blueberries, broccoli, etc) but comparatively speaking – Matcha outranks them all. Substantially.  In a Tufts University study, they found that Matcha had approximately 20-times more anti-oxidants than blueberries!  That isn’t a knock on blueberries or other anti-oxidant rich foods, it just means we have a lot of good things to choose from to stay healthy and vibrant! We love that! 😉

7 Other Great Health Bennie’s of Matcha:

+ Calms the mind  & Relaxes the body

+ Enhances mood & Helps with focus

+ Boosts metabolism & Burns fat

+ Detoxifies the body

+ Strengthens immune system

+ Improves cardiovascular health

+ Rich in fiber, chlorophyll and vitamins

Now let’s try it!

It’s so easy to find delicious ways to integrate this power-tea into your daily diet.  Start with a high-quality Matcha. I use Jade Leaf Matcha, Organic from Japan. Make sure it is from Japan. The Japanese use machine-harvesting techniques that are more advanced, contain 60% more anti-oxidants than the Chinese 16% and adhere to much stricter quality standards. As a result, Japan produces only 1% of the worlds Matcha supply as opposed to 80% produced from China. Quality takes longer and is more labor intensive.

Japanese matcha is a little more expensive – but isn’t your health worth a few extra bucks? Yes! Side note – the natural flavor of Matcha is kinda earthy and can be a touch bitter depending on your taste buds.  I always add a little sweetener like honey, maple syrup or even a little Stevia in a pinch.  They all pair nicely with Matcha!
