Peanut Butter with 90% less fat? Yes!

Peanut Butter Powder: Made with real peanuts & most of the oil removed for 90% less fat. Use in snacks and protein shakes for a healthy option!

Hold onto your yoga pants ladies….

If you love healthy snacks with peanut butter, but still want to fit into your skinny jeans – have I got a cool find for you!  POWDERED PEANUT BUTTER: It’s made with real peanuts and has 90% less fat than regular peanut butter, and the same protein content.

Yes, I’m serious.  Just add a little water, mix – and bam!  Peanut butter!  I learned about this brand last year from my friend Becky – who I call Becky-with-the-good-hair because….well, she has amazing hair!

She told me about PB Fit, and insisted that it was delicious.  So, of course I practically twisted an ankle trying to get to my phone to order the damn stuff! 2-day Amazon Prime, obvi.  My first thought was that it must be some kind of fake food that mimics the taste of peanut butter.  I mean, there’s always gotta be a catch, right!?   NO!

They extract the oil!

Powdered peanut butter actually IS made from real roasted peanuts, but they extract most of the oil from the peanuts – which in turn dials the fat content way down. This particular brand adds a pinch of palm sugar and salt as well.

2 Tablespoons of PB Fit = 1.5 grams of fat vs 16 grams in regular, natural peanut butter!

The taste:

It’s actually really good.  It is not as rich as regular peanut butter, because most of the oil has been removed to drive down the fat content.  It’s sort of like the difference between a slice of real chocolate cake vs those old school fat-free Entenmann’s chocolate cakes.  You could tell the difference, but the Entenmann’s was pretty damn good!

Love this peanut butter as a healthy snack on sliced apples, a banana, or spread over warm toasted seeded bread with a drizzle of honey and a few slices of bananas!

Used in Protein Shakes – well, not so much

I tried this brand in my protein shake and did not like it.  It isn’t that it tasted bad, it just didn’t add any peanut flavor to the shake.  At all.  Bummer.  I stick to having it for snacks, crackers, apples, protein pancakes and it’s been great.

For Protein Shakes, NorCal Organic is the bomb!
No additives. Vegan & Vegetarian friendly

Last month, I discovered NorCal Organic Peanut Butter Protein.  I like that it does not have any additives at all.  It’s literally 100% Spanish roasted peanuts, with most of the oil removed (same as PB Fit) and turned into a powder.   I tried it in my Post-Yoga Protein Smoothie and drumroll……Score!  It’s delicious and tastes just like you would expect peanut butter to taste in a protein shake.  It’s got that distinct, peanut taste.

I did not like eating it directly.

It tasted too raw, is the best way I can describe it.  It almost had a slightly bitter after-taste?  We’re used to eating natural, no additive peanut butter at our house, so it’s not that my taste buds aren’t used to pure peanut butter.  I just wasn’t a fan.

I made Oliver do a side-by-side blind taste test of the two, eaten directly (hey listen, everyone has to help around here). He scrunched his nose at the NorCal, same as me.  Said it tasted funny.  He raised his eyebrows, like “mmm, pretty good”, at the PB Fit.

I also had him use the NorCal in his protein shake, then give me his opinion.  He loved it (same as me).

In short – here’s the verdict:

+ PB Fit to eat directly on snacks

+ NorCal Organic for Protein Shakes

Which one you try, depends how you generally use peanut butter.  We keep both at the house. I also mix 1-TB of real peanut butter with the PB Fit.  Why?  Because 1 TB of real peanut butter (a serving) doesn’t go very far on a piece of toast!  PB Fit is perfect for this!  You get the delicious richness of real peanut butter with full toast coverage.  Score 😉
