Why Others Laziness Can Be Your Success

Empower |

Success isn’t as complicated as you may think….

Want to know the real secret to success?  The one thing that immediately puts you ahead of most everyone else and makes you stand out in a good way?  Hint: It isn’t being smarter, more talented, better looking, more privileged – nor is it having some odd SuperPower.

The real secret is just not being lazy.

Yup.  Why? Because a lot of people, let’s be honest – kind of are.   They like to make excuses as to why they can’t possibly do something – They don’t have the time, They don’t have the money, They don’t have the support, The system isn’t fair, The dog hates them, etc.

The real issue isn’t that they can’t, it’s that they don’t want to put in the effort. And that is where you can take advantage and capitalize in areas that are most important to you!

Do what others won’t. Capitalize on the available empty

space left by those who don’t want to put in the effort.

Capitalize on the space left by those who don’t want to put in the extra effort. It’ll separate you from the rest of the pack.

Get the Low-Hanging Fruit

Low-hanging fruit are the “easy-grabs” that you can get with very little effort.  I used to run sales organizations in the corporate world.  Part of that, was coaching sales managers and sales exec’s to think & act with a success-oriented mindset.  “Thinking” like a winner raises your vibration, opening the conduit through which you will attract more and more winning situations, while a perpetually negative mindset draws more and more negative situations and experiences towards you.  It’s the Law of Attraction.

Here are 3 Easy-Grabs to catapult you to success, placing you heads and tails above the pack…

3 Key Ways to Capitalize on Others Laziness:

1. Follow The 80% Rule:  Do the Basics

I used to tell my sales teams, 80% of being successful is just showing up.  What I meant by that, was that just doing the basics will get you 80% of the way to your goal.  You know, “Basics” like…. Show up on time, Meet deadlines, Do what you say you’ll do, Produce clean work-product, and Don’t be a constant pain in the ass.

Sound easy?  That’s because it is.  The beauty is that most people don’t do it and therein lies your opportunity – your low-hanging fruit.  Capitalize!  Take advantage of it! You would be shocked at how many people, including some pretty smart, well-educated people don’t do the basics.  I’m even talking doctors and lawyers, who can’t follow basic rules.

I’ve had to terminate some very talented salespeople because they couldn’t (or wouldn’t) meet minimal expectations.  They’d show up late, miss deadlines, blow-off meetings, not call a customer back when promised, or create havoc among the rest of the team with their drama.  So, despite talent and strong sales results, they were let go because I saw them as weak-links in an otherwise strong team – and that’s not acceptable. In short, they self-sabotaged.

Takeaway:  By just doing the Basics, you are, no joke – ahead of 80% of the pack.

2.  Be Curious

Curiosity is a really important trait to have.  Why?  Well, it drives knowledge, the desire for more knowledge, bettering ourselves, expanding our world and seeking better ways to do something.  Curiosity sparks creativity and inspiration.

Curiosity leads to asking yourself questions like Why? How come? Can’t it be done this way instead of that way?” then seeking the answers.  In doing so, the seeking inevitably leads to that “ah ha!” spark of inspiration and creativity.  Now, the decision is what to do with the idea.  Do you sit on it, or do you apply it – do you put it into action?  The Extra-ordinary put it into action.  This goes hand-in-glove with number 3……

80% of “success” – is just doing the Basics, and doing them consistently. Why? Because most people don’t. Truth.

3.  Be Extra-Ordinary

The difference between Ordinary and Extra-ordinary is that little extra.

The difference between the ordinary and the extra-ordinary, is indeed that little extra. Think of it like this…. If most people aren’t doing the basics, even if they’re Curious – chances are extremely high that they aren’t applying or taking action on what they’ve learned or discovered.  Here again, is your low-hanging fruit opportunity.  Put forth the extra effort to put what you’ve learned into action.

Maybe you spend a little time thinking about potential solutions to give your boss for a problem she’s wrestling with (curiosity).   Curiosity and research leads you to a few potential solutions that you proactively present to her (that little extra)!  Regardless of whether or not she uses your idea – you now have her attention.

She sees you as a problem solver, not a problem creator and as someone who’s thinking strategically. Plus, I guarantee you’ll be the only one on the team to do this for her.  Bingo.  You’ve done something extra-ordinary.  Who will she remember when it’s time to promote?  You.

Success is how you define it, not how society defines it. Your job, marriage, family & friendships, health & fitness routine – it’s your life and your call!

Success is how you define it – it can be literally anything!

I used the professional sphere just as an example, but success is how you define it for yourself.  You’re the boss of you, the conductor of your own orchestra – and you decide what is most meaningful and fulfilling in your life.

Applying Our 3 Key Ways, to Health & Fitness

Right off the bat, we know that the majority of people aren’t doing the basics to stay healthy & maintain a healthy weight.   Basics, such as working out consistently (I suggest 4-5x a week) and eating healthy foods.

1. Applying the 80% Rule:

By consistently doing some sort of workout 4-5x a week and eating healthy, you’re already heads and tails above the majority of people.

2. Curiosity:

We can always learn, right?  Maybe you have a friend who seems to have mastered the whole healthy eating & working out thing.  Reach out to her. Ask about her diet, her fitness routine.   How does she stay motivated? What’s her biggest challenge & how does she work around it? You can always ASK me too!

It doesn’t mean you have to emulate everything she does, but I promise you’ll come away with at least one valuable takeaway. Plus – it’ll make her feel good – and that’s always a good thing. 😉

Research a variety of healthy diets (there are a ton). Is there one that resonates the most with you?  Maybe you’ve decided to kick-sugar, or you’re interested in Keto or the Mediterranean “diet.” Whatever it is – explore it. Figure out what feels and works best for your body.

3. Be Extra-Ordinary:

Give a little extra – put what you’ve learned into action & motion.  Prepare and cook healthy meals + Get up a little earlier to workout + Try new exercises.   Now you’re extra-ordinary!   Now you’re the one who inspires and motivates others 😉
