8 Life-Changing Wellness Habits

to Balance & Ground You

I think we can ALL use a good dose of Balance & Grounding energy right now, am I right?  The world just flat-out feels….. out of whack.  Off-balance, Off-center and just…. not healthy.  “Not healthy” physically, mentally and certainly not spiritually.

It’s easy to sucked into the vortex of those feelings, unless we remind ourselves of this:

“I can’t control the world, but I can control ME.

How I choose to live life, what actions or habits I integrate

into each day – will play a huge role in determining my physical,
mental and spiritual well-being.”

Ayurveda

I love this way of thought because it’s a reminder that personal wellness lies in our own hands.  It’s one of the reasons I’m attracted to Ayurveda.

Ayurveda is one of the oldest forms of whole-body healing.  Developed in India over 3,000 years ago – it’s based on the belief that the entire Wellness of our being, is based on a delicate balance of our Mind, Body and Spirit.  That they’re all, you know…… connected!

Think about how amazing you feel when everything is operating on full throttle – you feel physically healthy, mentally and spiritually strong, happy and on-point.

Now, think about a time when just one of those areas felt “off.”  Maybe you came down with the flu, stuck in bed for days feeling like crap.  How does that affect you mentally and spiritually?  For me, I feel drained, unmotivated and my thoughts aren’t as positive.  When mind, body & spirit are all in harmony with the universe, we’re at our optimal best.  When something disrupts that balance, we’re out of balance.  That’s the basic gist.

I cherry picked my favorites for you!

Admittedly, I picked my personal favorite Ayurvedic Wellness Rituals to share with you.  The ones that I think are easy enough for most of us to integrate into our lives without going Koo-Koo for CocoaPuffs.  Try them!  You should start feeling a stronger sense of balance, happiness, calm and a lightness of spirit.   It’s the perfect time to establish a few good Wellness rituals.

What I personally use and love. All used in the 8 Habits:

8 Life-Changing Wellness Habits

to Feel Balanced, Calm, Grounded

1. Wake-Up Early!

It’s the most spiritually charged time of day.

According to Ayurveda, waking up before sunrise (ideally between 4:30 & 6am) is when the qualities in nature that bring about peace of mind, positivity and curbing of negative energies are at their peak.  It’s the optimal time to increase our mental clarity and positivity for the day!

Early morning is also thought to be the most spiritually charged time of the day – so it’s the best time to do Yoga, meditate and set your intention for the day.  Personally 4:30 is too freaking early for me, so I’m a 6am-er.

2.  Clean Your Aura

No eye-rolling, lol (that was my first reaction too).  I KNOW it sounds hippy-dippy, but since no one was looking – I tried it and I HAVE to tell you that I could feel the difference.

It’s easy to do & feels invigorating

Right after waking up, just gently move your hands all over your face, chest and down to your waist.  It’s supposed to “clean the aura.”  It actually does feel cleansing and kind of stimulates the senses after sleeping all night.  Try!

3. Light an Intention Candle

This is Your Secret-Sauce Power Move!!

Carve out 5-10 minutes in the morning to sit quietly, and light your Intention Candle (any white candle that you like!). You’re about to set the TONE for your day. You’ll start the day feeling Strong, Grounded, Confident and Empowered. Here’s What You’ll Do:

Sit & Light Your Intention Candle. As you focus on the flame:

  1. FIRST: Ask the Universe to bring only Positive Energy, Thoughts, Emotions, People and Situations into your Life. Breathe deeply and focus on that Intention.
  2. As you focus on the glowing flame, imagine POSITIVE LIGHT (I imagine glowing, white light) flowing generously & freely in towards you.
  3. NEXT: Ask the Universe to REPEL AWAY Negative Energy, Thoughts, Emotions, People and DESTRUCTIVE HABITS – that are not for your “Best and Highest Good.”
  4. As you focus on the flame, imagine Imagine NEGATIVITY (I picture it as black smoke), bouncing off of an imaginary bubble that surrounds & protects you. This represents Negativity repelling away from your life.

When you feel Calm & Grounded, blow out the flame and start your day! I find this practice SO calming and centering.  10-minutes completely sets the tone for feeling Calm, Strong, Grounded, Confident & Empowered. Think of the cumulative effect this would have on your life if you did this every morning? It’s a Powerful Tool to have in your arsenal 😉

Light your Intention Candle, breathe deeply and quietly set your Intention for the day. Any white candle will do – I happen to love my Jo Malone Lime, Basil & Mandarin.

4.  Add Fresh Flowers to Your Space

Spiritual medicine full of Healing Powers

Aside from making your house look and smell beautiful, flowers are an amazing spiritual medicine, full of healing powers.   They are thought to protect against stress and mental anxiety, and are therapeutic for anger and irritability as their scents have a quieting, unwinding effect on our emotions. Just looking at and smelling them will immediately lift your spirits and bring about a sense of calmness and peace.  This is an easy one to try!

Flowers are full of healing powers thought to relieve stress, mental anxiety and are therapeutic for anger and irritability.

5.  Give Yourself an Oil Massage!

This one does triple duty:  First, massaging warm oil into your skin has “Me Night” written all over it.  Second,  it’ll keep your skin looking soft, glowing, healthy & rejeuvenated.

Third are the therapeutic benefits:

According to Ayurveda, massaging warm coconut oil or

sesame oil helps to calm your mind and nervous system,

reduce pain, ward off exhaustion, and promote good

sleep and healthy skin.

Giving yourself an Oil Massage may sound messy and like something best kept to the Spa professionals, but it’s actually easy.   I do it right after my evening shower, sitting on a fluffy towel on the bathroom floor.  Just massage the oil all over your skin, much as you would a moisturizer.  Pay special attention to the soles of your feet!  We have over 7,000 nerve endings in each foot – so taking extra care to really massage the feet feels amazing!

I personally love & use KOPARI Coconut Melt (pic) for its versatility. Use on Skin, Hair Mask, Remove Makeup, Nourish Lips…. Decadent!

6. Smell Essential Oils

They Ground & Stabilize

Smell is the most powerful of our 5 senses.  It has the ability to trigger memories, feelings and influence our experience.  Think of walking into a spa, and instead of the calming smell of lavender & rosemary – instead it smells like the Porta-Potty.  I know. You’re welcome.  In Ayurveda, smell is  connected to the earth which is grounding and stabilizing.  So smelling essential oils has a stabilizing effect on your mind.

Smelling essential oils during the day has a stabilizing effect on your mind. Try:
CITRUS Scents in the Morning to energize

EVERGREEN Scents Midday to soothe feelings of anxiety

and promote a sense of emotional steadiness.

AT NIGHT try scents like Lavender, Sandalwood

or Juniper – all thought to promote relaxation, deeper

sleep & reduce fatigue.

I use this pack-of-4 Essential Oils by VITRUVI, to Calm & Ground AM to PM. It comes with: GRAPEFRUIT to Energize, SPRUCE & EUCALYPTUS to Ground Midday & LAVENDER to promote rejuvenating sleep.

7.   Scrape Your Tongue!

You know that yucky film on your tongue in the morning? That’s ama, by products that our digestive system leaves on the tongue after ridding the body of toxins as we sleep.  Tongue scraping helps clean the tongue of ama, which can compromise our digestion and immune system—before it can be reabsorbed. Read more about it….

Tongue Scraping helps get rid of bad breath (yuck!). Just do it in the AM & PM before brushing your teeth! I use the MasterMedi Scraper. I love that it’s a 2-pack, so you can SHARE 😉

8.  Connect with the Earth + Envision Destiny in Your Hands

First thing in the morning, step outside sans shoes – that means barefoot ;-). Stand and breathe in the morning quiet, the fresh air – the stillness. Feel your feet connecting to the ground. Now imagine roots (like a tree) extending from the soles of your feet – deep into the ground.

Feel rooted, grounded, stabilized and strong. As though no matter what happens – you’re as strong as a steel pole in vat of cement. Finally, gaze down at your palms, and acknowledge that the power to direct and control your life….. is literally in your own hands. No one else.

The power is yours. It always was.
